In the summer of 2007 we performed a “makeover” on an existing 400-gallon saltwater tank. This overhaul took about 4 to 5 days to complete - involving a complete overhaul of all tank decorations and filtration, acrylic scratch removal, and a lighting upgrade. The results were dramatic. Above you see two photographs. The photo on the left is the before and the one on the right is the after.

I commute daily and travel between NYC and Long Island for much of my work. This tank is situated in Northern Long Island. It’s a 350-gallon reef tank, with three 400 metal halide HQI lights and a 1/3 horsepower chiller. It contains stony and soft corals, and an assortment of fish and invertebrates.  A tank of this size needs to be maintained on a weekly basis and, when you are seeing clients that often, you have the opportunity to really make a connection.
